TOP 10 urban hikes in Slovakia to clear your head

It's not every weekend that we feel like packing a backpack, looking for parking under Kriváň or getting up at six in the morning. Sometimes we just want to switch off. After work, when we don't even have the strength for the series anymore. Or on Saturday morning, when we still have no idea what to do with the day. Just then, a short, easy two-hour hike somewhere outside the city is perfect. For a reward. We bring you a selection of 10 short city tours across Slovakia that everyone can handle. Even a tired person after a whole day in the office.

1. From Stupava to Pajštún

  • Location: Malé Karpaty (Malacky district)

  • Length: approx. 5 km there and back

  • Time: 1.5 hours

  • Character: An easy route through the forests of the Lesser Carpathians to the ruins of the Pajštún castle. Ideal for a quick trip from around Bratislava, but without the crowds from the center. Views, forest, gentle climb.

2. By Gypsy Járk to Kačín (Bratislava, Lamač)

  • Location: Malé Karpaty (city district Lamač)

  • Length: approx. 3 km there and back

  • Time: 1 hrs.

  • Character: Short hike along the forest path of the well-known name to the meadows near Kačín. Undemanding, refreshing, ideal for afternoon psychohygiene. Connected to public transport.

3. Zoborská lesosteppe and Pyramid (Nitra)

  • Location: Tribeč

  • Length: approx. 4 km circuit

  • Time: 1–1.5 hrs.

Character: An easy hike to Zobor with a view of Nitra. It starts directly from the city part. An interesting steppe environment, ideal for early mornings or late afternoons.

4. Urpín from the center (Banská Bystrica)

  • Location: city forest park

  • Length: approx. 5 km circuit

  • Time: 1.5 hrs.

Character: Ascent from the center of Banská Bystrica through a forest environment to Urpín with an iconic view. Short but full of atmosphere.

5. Vyhlíadka Hradová (Košice)

  • Location: Čermeľský les

  • Length: approx. 4 km there and back

  • Time: 1 hour.

Character: From the center of Košice by city through the forest to the observation tower Hradová. A great way to freshen up after work without leaving town.

6. Tomášovský view from Čingov (Slovak Paradise)

  • Location: Slovak Paradise

  • Length: approx. 4 km there and back

  • Time: 1–1.5 hours

Character: A short but nutritious route to one of the most famous viewpoints in Slovakia. Undemanding, even a less skilled tourist can handle it. Reward: wow view.

7. Likava Castle (Ružomberok)

  • Location: Liptov

  • Length: approx. 2.5 km

  • Time: 45 min – 1 hour.

Character: Short climb to ruins with a view of the Váha valley. A trip also suitable for children or as a supplement to a day spent in Ružomberok.

8. Kalvária and Stráž hill (Žilina)

  • Location: Kysucká vrchovina

  • Length: approx. 3 km

  • Time: 1 hour.

Character: A quick hike from the city to an inconspicuous hill with a view. A combination of short physical activity and the spiritual atmosphere of Calvary.

9. Štiavnické tajchy from Bane (Banská Štiavnica)

  • Location: Štiavnické vrchy

  • Length: approx. 4–5 km

  • Time: 1.5 hrs.

Character: A leisurely walk around historic water reservoirs, ideal for slowing down. A combination of nature, history and silence.

10. Lake Izra (Slanské vrchy, Trebišovský district)

  • Location: south-eastern Slovakia

  • Length: approx. 3 km circuit

  • Time: 1 hrs.

Character: Easy route around the picturesque lake, accessible by car and on foot. A popular local tip for relaxing in nature without effort.

All you need for these hikes is good light shoes, a small backpack, a bottle of water and the decision to go. Thanks to their availability and brevity, they are also ideal for people who manage, plan and sit all day... and then just want to take a breather. No excuses.
